教你英语口语,很是实用:
1.nothing to write home about没什么特别的
EX: Anne: I heard you ate at the fancy restaurant on the Elm Street. How was it?
Joey: The food's nothing to write home about, but the service is quite good.
2.have no bearing on something与某事没什么关联
EX: Howard: What were you talking about at the meeting? It had no bearing on the issue we discussed.
Jennifer: I think it did. I'll explain it to you later.
3.blow something out of proportion夸大某事的重要性
EX: Vincent: I think I'll have to start the experiment again.
Helen: Wait a second! Don't blow this out of proportion. I didn't say that you needed to redo the whole thing. I just said you need to work more on one part of it.
4.get through to someone把想法传递出去,与某人沟通
EX: Jeff: How can I get through to you? Why won't you believe me?
John: It's not that I don't believe you. It's just that I don't agree with you.
5.be wiped out极为疲倦
EX: Joey: I'm wiped out. I spent five hours on this assignment.
Allen: I'd be wiped out, too.
6.be stretched out延伸,衣服变形EX: Kevin: Look! My sweater is all stretched out.
Karen: Did you put it in the washing machine?
Kevin: Yes, I did.
Karen: That's why. You should've washed it by hand.
7.scratch the surface约略带过
EX: Greg: I've told you a little about my trip. But I only scratched the surface because there's so much more to tell.
Judy: That's OK. You can tell me more about it next time.
